PORTO DE GALINHAS

PORTO DE GALINHAS Porto de Galinhas beach is, currently, Brazil's most famous tourist resort. It has been several times elected as one of the best beaches in Brazil and this charming place located south of Pernambuco state has been luring tourists from all over the world, due to its natural beauties and its tourist infrastructure.

The site was formerly known as Porto Rico (N.B. literally, “Rich Port”), due to plentiful Brazil wood trees as well as the sugar cane plantations. After slave trade was banned in Brazil, this activity remained active but illegal in the region.

Ships from Africa would come ashore, bringing crates with guinea fowls but hiding slaves inside the holds. The password for the “shipment” could come ashore was “new chickens on the port”, and the beach was named after this reason.

Nowadays, large-scale arrivals stand for tourists and visitors eager to plunge into the clear waters of the sea while diving with thousands of small, coloured fishes into the marvellous natural pools during low tide.

Nevertheless, splendours go beyond Porto de Galinhas. The area also includes the marvellous and striking beaches of Muro Alto, Maracaipe, Cupe, Serrambi, among others. Mangroves and remains of the Atlantic Forest stand for another exclusive attraction.

Located only 65 km away south of Recife, Porto de Galinhas provides an outstanding assortment of tourist services for every preference and budget. Luxury hotels, resorts, guest inns, bars, restaurants, discos and a wide assortment of galleries and stores.

Porto de Galinhas centre is always joyful and full of life but it is at night that the site actually rouses with streets crowded with population and the tourists enjoying the life all through the night at bares and attending festivities galore.

Porto de Galinhas has been turning into a major centre for events. Some hotels and resorts include convention centres luring the interest of entities, corporations and associations to convene congresses, symposiums and seminars in Porto de Galinhas, thus adding more value to their businesses while enjoying the pleasure of staying at such fabulous beach.

Other modifications and improvements that have been taking place in the region stand for the Port of Suape, the erection of Abreu e Lima's Shipyard and Refinery. The port attaches and fuels the launch of various industries, thus strengthening the economic power of Ipojuca district and its neighbour, the district of Cabo De Santo Agostinho.

For that reason, Pernambuco´s Porto de Galinhas should always be included in the holiday circuit of every lover of beach & nature, willing to enjoy a stylish life in a place more a person regards as “simply” the paradise.
